Creating healthier employees, and a healthier bottom line.

Examining past data, Propel experts implement a plan for a healthier future.

Challenge

When the Issaquah School District first became a Propel client, the entire team sat down together to discuss priorities, review the district’s recent claims history, and develop strategies to reduce costs without affecting overall program offerings and effectiveness. During this exploration phase, Propel’s in-house underwriting unit noticed the district had been encountering an increase in premiums for all employees. As the Propel team continued examining claims data, it was discovered that, in some cases, district employees were opting to see a medical professional for conditions that could be addressed through alternative treatments and a new carrier for the Employee Assistance Plan (EAP).

Solution

Propel implemented an improved EAP for the district that gave employees access to more meaningful services. Just as importantly, the Propel experts improved communication with employees to ensure they knew about the valuable services available to them. Face-to-face meetings, online newsletters, and other communication were effective in getting the message out. Additionally, Propel implemented online tools and services that gave employees easy access to their benefits.

Result

Engaged and informed, district employees began participating in the improved EAP. Once implemented, this strategy resulted in reduced overall costs without negatively affecting employee health or program satisfaction metrics. Consequently, employee premiums were reduced as well.

“With Propel, I can just breathe an idea and within days they have a whole proposal for me of choices… They’ve implemented excellent programs for us and they’ve been great about working with our different employee groups to understand their needs, and explaining their benefits in meaningful ways… Propel is just there for us. They follow through from A-Z. I would say they’re most rare.”
